WELCOME TO THE 60s

If I could take a minute to escape from our current-day nightmare of faux-hipsters, I wouldn't mind landing in the 1960's -- they were pretty badass. Sometimes all a girl wants to do is smoke some Sobranies, wear a shift dress and listen to The Beatles.

This is a basic "how to" get in touch with your inner 60s:

Films: Thanks to French New Wave, the 60s were mostly filled with great and inspiring films. And in the recent years, films in the noughties have taken a leaf out of this film golden age.  When Romantic films were still romantic and idyllic, and cinematic breakthroughs were at their peak. So, if you haven't watched any of the following films, we hope that you do after this post. It is for your own good.
from top left corner: A Bout de Souffle (1960),  Factory Girl (2006),  A Single Man (2009), An Education (2009), Help! (1965),  The Graduate (1967)
Music: Nothing can put a girl in a good like some 1960's pop. Love songs were squeaky clean and boys had adorable bowl cuts. Tell me having John Lennon singing that he wants your hold your hand doesn't put a smile on your face and I'll tell you you don't know what's good for you.
from top left corner: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Supremes & Serge Gainsbourg
Fashion: A 60s girl always looked sexy, sultry and sophisticated. To achieve this look, start off with a cat eye (a steady hand is needed for this). Topshop, Woolies and Afraid of Mice have really great mod-inspired shift dresses that will deffos make you feel like Twiggy. For your lovely pins, buy some printed pantihose, kitten heels, Go-go boots or Mary Janes. Have fun with this look, after all that's what the 60s were all about.
All dresses available at Topshop

Icons: A post about the 60s without mentioning the people who made it a decade of awesomeness wouldn't be complete. Be inspired by the likes of sexy French songstress Brigitte Bardot or like the chic supermodel Twiggy.
